This is Steam And Things first "powered" kit.
The model will run (without modification) on curves as tight as 2'4" (700mm) radius in O scale and 15 3/4" (400mm) in equivalent OO. There are some test etch photos lower down, and on a separate page we have a selection of photos of the first (7mm) test build. Click this logo link to view.
This steam railcar car "ran" on the Kent & East Sussex Railway. It was delivered to this "Colonel Stephens" Railway in 1905, being built by Messrs. Pickering. It was basically a 4 wheel fixed frame vehicle, powered by a vertical boiler. The length over buffers was 30ft with a wheelbase of 17ft. It sported various numbers during it's existence; No 16 as part of coaching stock and No 6 as engine stock.Various cosmetic changes took place over the railmotor's life, and from phototgraphs we have identified 3 different panelling arrangements, be that on the sides or the ends. One modification was of course the famous "Garden Shed" doors! (Seen in the model photo above).
The kit is in 0.3mm (12 thou) etched brass to our usual high standard (see "Customer Testimonials"), with whitemetal castings, wire, screws, glazing material, resin roof profile, casting resin and decals. In fact a complete kit, per our usual specification. All that will be required will be wheels and motor (and possibly a drive chain) to complete.
With respect to in depth specifications, we offer:
The 4mm version is a development of the 7mm kit and is just as comprehensive with
respect to the specification etc.
There is really only one important difference, in that we have not included a cast resin roof. However full instructions are given as to how construct the roof in balsa wood or laminated styrene. Templates are also supplied.
Also, we have taken a license with respect to the the castings. Due to low market potential of this product, and because they are so small that we have utilised very similar items used in our other kits. Modellers may wish to use as is or modify. Castings included in the kit are those for buffers (with turned steel heads), oil/grease boxes, leaf springs and roof vents/lamp covers. We can quote without castings, but the cost reduction will be negligible.
Fully dimensioned drawings are given for items that can be made from scrap brass tube and rod, viz. parallel chimney, whistle and acetylene cylinder. Wire and screws are not inlcuded in the kit.
