WC&PLR (Weston Clevedon & Portishead Light Railway)
DREWRY RAILCAR & TRAILER

7mm (1:43.5) and 4mm (1:76) scales

Photo: archival

The Drewry Car Company supplied this four-wheeled petrol railcar to the WC&PLR in October 1921. It was introduced due to increasing working costs after WWI and to avoid cutting down on passenger services. This unit ran a shuttle service between Clevedon and Weston. In March 1923 a trailer was supplied. Originally it had open ends and canvas side curtains but presumably this was unsatisfactory as soon after windows and glazed doors were fitted. In 1925 a small wagon was supplied to run with the railmotor; this seems to be the same wagon as used by the Muir-Hill Tractor.

These Steam And Things etched brass frets are produced as an indepth aid to scratch building. Many parts are included and the product is at the material level of a kit though we only supply a (very comprehensive) list of parts. The only difference form a complete kit is that construction detail is left to the modeller. Although castings are supplied (in 7mm only) the modeller will have to decide on and source wheels, bushes, screws, glazing material, motor, gearbox etc. The modeller will also need to decide on his own method of motorisation,

But from the "etched parts" point of view the kit is as complete as possible per our usual specification and includes WC&PLR transfers. We will produce special transfers for the freelance railway builder, or for those with modeller's licence!

We offer the Drewry Petrol Railcar, the later trailer and the goods wagon.
